Bronze Garden

Preface

The Bronze Garden was inspired by a visit to the Barbara Hepworth Sculpture Garden in St. Ives (Cornwall). The garden itself is stunning, with striking roses, exotic palm trees and vibrant flowers. Amongst the dense foliage, are great shapes cast in bronze, their forms and colours feel at home in their green gallery.

Amongst the turquoise sculptures between the red and white roses is a sphere. Three segments are cut from it revealing a pentagonal form within. Cut through it, is an almost perfect circle, acting as a window to the garden behind.

This piece uses the shapes, colours, textures and surroundings of Hepworth’s sphere to create the musical material and therefore transforms the sculpture from a physical piece of art to an aural piece of art.
