Programme Note

The 25-year-old Mozart composed 12 variations for piano on the French folk song Ah! vous diraj-je, maman, a melody first appearing in 1761 and later used for many children’s songs including Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. In this arrangement the theme and ten of the variations have been reimagined for wind orchestra.
