Programme Note

As both a composer and conductor, I have always been fascinated by how closely these two disciplines are linked. The smallest of movements from the conductor can drastically affect the sound and therefore the realisation of the composition itself. Movement for Music is an exploration of this boundary between composer and conductor and essentially combines the two disciplines into one. Movement for Music has no written score. The players must perform by responding to the conductor’s movements, which should govern every aspect of player’s improvisation, including; tempo, dynamic, rhythm, phrase shape, articulation, expression, entries etc.
